Cyprus was traditionally a famous destination among Russians and Russian speakers. Cyprus and Russia ties are more than just commercial, with shared roots and religious bonds, something that in recent years led to call Limassol, home of about 50.000 Russian speakers, Moscow on the Med. Due to these ties, many Russian oligarchs were using Cyprus firms to tranfer their money from Russia to tax-free destinations. After the Russian-Ukraine war, the sanctions made these transfers difficult. Additionaly, many Russians and Russian speakers, but also other foreigners, such as Iranians and other Europeans, who wanted to invest in Cyprus, invest at the occupied part of Cyprus, as prices are still lower than in the Southern part or other European countries. This part of Cyprus is filled with casinos, which helps in money laundering and projects are being built at great numbers, especcially at the area of Iskele (Turkish name) or Trikomo, as it is the Greek name.
