Migrants in Cyprus are estimated around 6% compared to its population, the largest percentage between European countries and that fact alone stresses the community's endurance and tolerance against them. After an anti-migrant demonstration in Limassol on 1st September 2023 and the large scale riots they followed, there were also big anti-migrant demonstrations in Chloraka (a city near Paphos) with riots for almost a week. The St. Nickolas complex was the center of the riots, because the complex was being inhabited by 600 people at the time of the demonstrations, with no basic facilities, such as water and electricity. The people living next to the complex were often complaining about thefts and trespassing of their property from some migrants. After the riots, the police evacuated the complex and sealed the houses, with most of the migrants leaving behind their belongings.
